SphygmoCor: the gold standard in PWA and PWV!

Would you like to know the Central Aortic Stiffness and/or the Arterial Stiffness?
Then just measure the Pulse Wave Analysis and/or Pulse Wave Velocity!

Pulse Wave Analysis (PWA) and Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) are the parameters for successful medication therapy.
and the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The SphygmoCor cardiovascular Management System (CVMS) is a tonometry-based device used to obtain vital cardiovascular data non-invasively that cannot be obtained with traditional brachial cuff blood pressure measurements. SphygmoCor CVMS enables clinicians and researchers to measure the pressure actually experienced by the heart, brain and kidneys.

The SphygmoCor CVMS product line includes:
1) the SphygmoCor CP system
2) the SphygmoCor CPV system
3) the SphygmoCor CPVH system

1) the SphygmoCor CP system:
contains pulse wave analysis (PWA) software only. During a PWA measurement, a 10 second snapshot of the radial pressure wave is measured using a tonometer. The SphygmoCor software derives the rising aortic pressure wave, substantially equivalent to the pressure wave measured by an invasive catheter. From the aortic pressure wave, a number of valuable cardiovascular measurements are determined, including the central aortic systolic pressure, the aortic enlargement index, and the central pulse pressure.

2) the SphygmoCor CPV system:
includes both the pulse wave velocity (PWV) and the PWA software. With the SphygmoCor CPV, PWV measurements can be made between any two pulse points in the body, but aorta PWV, measured with carotid and femoral artery measurements, has been shown to be the most predictive of the cardiovascular risk.

3) the SphygmoCor CPVH system:
In addition to the software for analysing pulse wave velocity and pulse waves, the SphygmoCor CPVH system also offers software for heart rate variability (HRV). The SphygmoCor HRV software offers analysis of both time and frequency domains, as well as measurements of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity. The system makes it possible to perform standard HRV measurements for 6 hours, as well as Valsalva and standing maneuver HRV measurements.

Advantages of SphygmoCor systems:

  • Painless and very fast measurement
  • Immediate removal of the measurement results
  • Very extensive field of application
  • Portable, lightweight system
  • Ability to upgrade to a higher system level (for example: from CP to CPV or CPVH)

SphygmoCor PWA and PWV analysis have been clinically tested and validated. The SphygmoCor systems are the most widely used systems in clinical and pharmaceutical studies worldwide.
